Obituary for Wilbur Lionel Boggs Jr.

Wilbur L. Boggs, Jr., 66, lifelong resident of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at his home on Wednesday.

Wilbur was born in Altoona, PA on June 4, 1955. He was the son of the late Wilbur L., Sr. and Eliza ‘Betty’ Boggs. On August 29, 1981, he married the love of his life, Leeann R. Detwiler, and they shared over 40 wonderful years together.

Wilbur is survived by: his wife; his brother William Boggs; his sisters Sandra Kirkpatrick (Ron) and Debra Boggs; his sons William Boggs (Tammy) and Andrew Boggs (Amy); his daughters Genna Carter, and Elizabeth Boggs (Marcus); his grandchildren Davon (Brittany), Sierra (Nick), Kyle, Draek, Maseon, Tyler, Nicholas and Aden; and his great-grandchildren Ryley and a baby girl on the way (Sierra).

Wilbur was preceded in death by: his parents and his in-laws, Tom and Shirley Detwiler.

Wilbur was a graduate of Altoona Area High School in 1973. After high school, Wilbur went to work on the railroad for Conrail, and retired as a carman/welder for Norfolk Southern. He also served as the Vice President of the TWU.

Wilbur was an avid Steelers, Penguins and Penn State fan. He had a dedicated passion for weight lifting and earned numerous trophies in the sport throughout his life. He loved riding his Harley, the amazing trips to the family cottage at Bethany Beach and any time spent with his special furbaby, Bella.

Wilbur loved life and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

A public visitation will be held for Wilbur on Sunday, January 16 from 3:00 PM until the 6:00 PM funeral service at The Good Funeral Home, Inc., Alto-Reste Park. Pastor Duane Coy officiating. Internment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wilbur’s name may be made to the Central PA Humane Society in Altoona.
