Obituary for William J. "Bill" Zackowski

William J. Zackowski, 79, of Altoona, was called home to his Lord on May 18, 2023.


He was born on July 22, 1943, in Duryea, PA; a son of the late Frank T. Zackowski, born in Poland and Stella T. (Gaboski) born in Kingston, PA.


He is survived by his son, Frank Zackowski of Dunmore, PA; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Lucille Mendicino of Naples, FL and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Zackowski.


William was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and retired from the VA Medical Center as a telephone operator.


He will miss his best friend Sonja Arthur. She went everywhere with William and shared good times and brought happiness in his life, she was always there for him. She is a remarkable person who is also a Christian.


William will be best remembered for his sense of humor, he enjoyed life and being around people and had insatiable kindness. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.


He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Altoona.


Friends and family will be received from 10am until the 11am funeral service on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona, with Pastor Tyler Pepper officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the funeral service, conducted by the Blair County Honor Guard.


Interment will be private at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
