Obituary for Zella Mae Thompson (Wansley)

Zella Mae (Wansley) Thompson

April 4, 1942 – Dec. 28, 2020

Zella Mae (Wansley) Thompson, 78, Altoona, entered into eternal rest on Monday.

She was born in Gadsten, Ala., the first of ten children born to the late Frank and Alma Wansley. Zella was married to Donovan Thompson for many years. Although they divorced, they remained friends to this day.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brothers: Billy, Roosevelt and Marvin of Altoona, Eddie (Brenda) of Hemet, Calif., Frank Jr. and Otto in Alabama; sisters: Eva (Garland) Miller of Sacramento, Calif. and Patricia Taylor and Alma Denise Wansley, both of Altoona; three close friends: Diane L. Hudson, Mary Moore and Arlene Smith; and a host of nephews, cousins and friends. Zella will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Fannie Densmore, who she affectionately called “Momma;” and her loving nephew, Christopher Hines.

In 1999, Zella relocated to Altoona to be close to family. On Aug. 14, 2016, she became a member of New Creation in Christ Ministry where she was an active member and became Mother of the church. Although her health was deteriorating she still performed her church duties.

She enjoyed game nights, including playing cards, with family and friends.

Interment will take place in Alto-Reste Park.
