Clara F. Houseman, 97, formerly of Altoona, died Friday, at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late George H. and Margaret (Stitzell) Bradt. She married her childhood sweetheart, Glenn V. Houseman, on Aug. 24, 1945, at Little Rock, Arkansas, and he died on April 30, 1959.
Surviving are a daughter, Glenda S. Scotto, of Chantilly, Va. and a son, Robert F. (Vicki) of Altoona; four grandchildren: Joseph (Lisa) Scotto, Bridgette (Frank) Kim, Natalie (Derek) Trimmer and Julia (Sean) McGeary; nine great-grandchildren: Claire and Thomas Scotto, Tyler, Samantha and Kaitlyn Kim, Julian and Elise Trimmer, and Owen and Brayden McGeary; and many nieces, nephews and cousins; and a niece, Peggy White.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George H. Bradt; and two sisters: Roberta Campbell and Louise Morgan.
Clara was a 1940 graduate of Altoona High School, and a member of the reunion committee. She worked for 24 years as a cafeteria worker and as a manager for the Altoona Area School District.
She was a faithful and active member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she had been a member of: the Emmanulite Sunday school class, bible school worker, church council member and festival committee participant. Clara was a member of Delphi Chapter of Eastern Star and a former member of Altoona Business and Professional Women's Club.
She loved oil painting, gardening, floral arranging, playing board and card games and was an excellent cook and housekeeper.
She was a wonderful Mom, “Gramma,” “Great-Gramma” and friend to many.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until noon Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Altoona. A celebration of life service will be held at noon, Pastor Barry R. Folmar officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1401 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601, or to Presbyterian Village, 220 Newry Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
