Doris D. (McDonnell) Reed

Feb 12, 1929 - March 31, 2019

Doris D. (McDonnell) Reed, 90, Martinsburg passed away peacefully on Sunday at Homewood at Martinsburg.

She was born in Clappertown, daughter of the late Ray O. and Hattie (Treese) Miller. On Feb. 3, 1959, she married William Y. McDonnell in Winchester, Va., and they were married 44 years before he preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1994. She remarried 10 years later on July 25, 2004, to Paul R. Reed in James Creek. On March 29, 2013, he too preceded her in death.

Surviving are her three loving children, two daughters, Cynthia K. (McDonnell) Shontz and husband, Larry, of James Creek, and Barbara M. (McDonnell) Clapper of Pollacksville, N.C., and a son, Robert W. McDonnell and wife, Gayla, of Havelock, N.C.; four grandchildren: Robert W. (Lisa) McDonnell Jr., Jason K. (Elaine) McDonnell, Catelin J. (Padraig) Cary and Christine D. Shontz (John Hodge); three great-grandchildren: William, Daniel and Jackson McDonnell; and a sister, Frances Haire of Hollidaysburg;

In addition to her parents and her husbands', she was preceded in death by her three sisters: Lorraine Weyandt, Gladys Frye and Florence Focht; and two brothers: Donald and Galen Miller.

Doris worked as a teller for Hollidaysburg Trust for many years. She treasured and loved her family dearly. She especially enjoyed camping, boating and water skiing with family and friends for many years. Doris was a talented piano and do-bro player. She loved to sing, especially country music and gospel.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 4, 2019, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday immediately following the visitation, Pastor Ryan Miller officiating. The burial will take place after the service in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
