Susan Joy Weyandt, 75, of Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Paul W. and Genevieve R. (Mackey) Swanger.

Susan married Carl J. Weyandt Sr. on Feb. 17, 1966 and he preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2007.

Surviving are two sons, Mark A. Weyandt and his wife, Barbara, of Lancaster and Carl J. Weyandt Jr. and his wife, Anitra, of Altoona; four grandchildren: Casidy, Marissa, Carson and Kierstan Weyandt. Also surviving is her brother, Gary Swanger, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her brother, Gregg Swanger.

She was a 1963 graduate of Altoona High School and retired from Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center where she worked in food service for over 30 years. She also worked at the Altoona Silk Mill and the 31st Street Wissingers store.

Susan attended the First Church of Christ in Altoona. She enjoyed spending time with her family, offering advice, traveling to many islands, cruising, reading in her early years and meeting up with fellow retirees at Graystone’s Breakfast Club.

She also loved her pets over the years including Jake, Shadoe and George the bird.

Susan’s family wishes to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to all of her friends and family who provided her with such great memories and adventures. They did not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
