Lara Elizabeth Behrens

Lara Elizabeth Behrens, 48, of Smyrna, DE ran through the finish line of her earthly life into the arms of Jesus on July 22, 2020 in Dysart, PA after an extended battle with cancer.

Lara was born in Washington, D. C. on November 22, 1971, and was the daughter of Richard A. Behrens (Chris) and Nancy Lynn (Good) Schultz (Ken).

She is survived by her brothers Thad Behrens (Amy), Geoff Behrens (Kendra), Josh Beyer (Rebekah), Sol Beyer (Brooke), and Eli Beyer (Stephanie); her sisters Dayna Mondello, Samara Mondello Smith (Kyle) and Emme Rylan (Don); aunts Carol Elswick (Ken), Chris McIntyre (John), Jean Behrens, and Kaylene Schultz; uncles George Good (Li) and Sheridan Behrens; grandfather Skip Parker; nieces Taylor, Vivie, Cecily and Kaelynn and nephew Zeke; and many special cousins.

She was preceded in death by: grandparents George and Clara May Good, John and Faith Berg, Clayton Behrens, Laura Schultz and Rheta Parker; uncle William Good (WAG) and cousin George Good II.

Lara loved spending time with her family and friends, but most of all she loved spending time with her dog, Riley. Lara and Riley had a special bond and he was a wonderful blessing to her. She especially loved family vacations to Cape Hatteras, NC where she could reconnect with her wonderful friends that lived there and enjoy the most beautiful beach in the world. Lara had a special relationship with her brothers and loved playing pickle in the yard with them and the never ending laughs when they were together. She loved living in Delaware with all her wonderful friends because it was everything she wanted. She cherished every moment of her time there. Lara’s calling was living a life to serve others, and she made a difference in the lives of countless people. Whatever Lara did in life, she put her whole heart and soul into it. She especially loved all the employees and patrons of Dover Downs.

Services for Lara will be private due to restrictions regarding COVID-19 with Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lara’s name may be sent to Family Hospice, Altoona, PA, First Church of Christ, Altoona, PA or Roseland Christian Fellowship, Glasgow, PA.

I'm so glad we went into that pet store all those years ago. I pray these trees will blossom and grow just as Yours and Riley's love did. Love Gail

I’m so sorry to hear of Lara’s passing, I think of her often! She lived on my floor freshman year of college and she was like our dorm mom. I used to go climb in her bed because she had the softest bedding! I remember her smile and beautiful eyes and sweet laugh. I thought the world of her and only got to know her for a short time but she made a lasting impression on me. She will be missed.

I am so deeply saddened to read of Lara's passing. She made this world a better, happier place with her sweet laugh and her dancing eyes. She and I were good friends in college, and then she came to live in DE (where I lived). I remember when she got Riley and the love she had for that angel puppy. She and I didn't see each other much over the last 15 years. But we spoke at least 1x a year (both of our birthdays being in November, we always caught up). When Lara was diagnosed, we spoke more often...sending silly snapchats to one another. But as life tends to do...we again spoke less often. Today, as I realized I had missed her birthday yesterday, I went to send her a text. And then I stopped...since I didn't hear from her on my birthday and realized how strange that was...Lara always remembered. That is when I found out. I honestly cannot tell you how deeply sorry I am. I have known this sweet woman since I was 19 years old...and the fact that she is no longer walking this earth just doesn't seem fair. It is heart wrenching. Please know that she was loved very much!! And I will miss my friend!
